Dude, It's Just A Game

This guy needs to relax a bit and look at the world around him. This story was found on Wired.com.

"A Real Winner

A Pennsylvania T-ball coach allegedly paid one of his players $25 to hurt an 8-year-old mentally disabled teammate so he wouldn't have to put the boy in the game, police said Friday. Mark R. Downs Jr., 27, of Dunbar, is accused of offering one of his players the money to hit the boy in the head with a baseball, police said. Witnesses told police Downs didn't want the boy to play in the game because of his disability. Police said the boy was hit in the head and in the groin with a baseball just before a game, and did not play, police said. "The coach was very competitive," state police Trooper Thomas B. Broadwater said. "He wanted to win."

What is wrong with this guy, $25??!! You don't pay a player to injure another teammate; you pay the retarded kid not to play. You say "here Timmy, your leg is hurt, you don't wanna play; have $25 bucks." Not "Tommy, nail Timmy in the crotch and head with this ball for some dough." Obviously 27 year olds aren't smart enough to coach and do it ethically. I mean, how does he go home to his mother with a story like that (yea, the pansy probably still lives at home). Personally, I have never really been one for affirmative action. The best person gets the job, period. If little Timmy has a mental condition but can still wack the crap out of a ball and has a good enough arm to throw from third to home, let him play. But if he runs like a one leged donkey or can't concentrate on the game for more then two minute stints, I don't see the obligation of allowing the kid on the team. I know, I know, it is all about quality of life and how we need to make all of society feel welcome. But what about the other eight kids on the field with him and the coach. Obviously, the coach felt his quality of life was threatened by affirmative action and letting this boy play. While his means are screwed up, I do understand why he may have done what he did. I don't want to apologize for the guy, just wish he was never placed in such a position to make that decision.
