It's just money, what's the big deal??

My dad and I went to Missouri Valley to see my aunt and pick up some girl scout cookies. Somehow, she had heard about my job with Union Pacific. The second thing she asked me was how much I was making. Now, I am not ashamed of my salary there, but I just don't see how that is relevant. I told her I was making $10.50 and her eyes got real big and she was in somewhat in a state of shock. I know she has never seen $10/hour in her life. I would guess she has never even seen $9 before. I really isn't that big of a deal, but she tried to make it a big deal. Her husband tried to play it off like it was an average entry level salary. For what I am doing, it is fairly entry level, but then again, this is just an internship and many interns don't even get paid in the various fields they decide to pursue. I know I'm fortunate, but common, it's just money.

New Intership

It's offical, I now have a new internship. After a month worth of waiting and interviewing, I now am and employee of Union Pacific working in their build facility. I will be doing basic techical jobs like reimaging hard drives and replacing RAM. I am scared to leave my dad and every thing Lancer Label, but I am very excited to build my resume and more importantly get my foot in the door of a company that I am very likly to spend the rest of my life with.

New 'Puters

Well, I said I will update when I get my new computer and so here we go. I had nothing but trouble with my Toshiba, so this time I decided to go with Sony. I now own a
Sony Vaio fs840 that will hopefully be more reliable then my old laptop. While I was up there, they had an open item Vaio media edition desktop that caught my eye. It is cool because I can hook my cable up to it and watch TV on my 19" new monitor and record TV on the hard drive instead of on VCR tapes. So there ya go, new computers.

WHHAAAT??

In this story on Wired.com, this dude is suing apple because the Ipood can reach 116 dB. At that volume, 28 seconds a day will cause perminate hearing loss. He is suing because they can get that loud and the current ear buds don't block ambiant noise requiring you to turn it up that loud. He is saying, get this folks, there should be more visible warnings proctecting us from possible hearing loss of cranking Zepplen all the way up. If I remember correctly, my Ipood DID come with a slip of paper warning aganst hearing loss. Besides, I rarly listen to it via my aftermarket headphones that help block outside noise, I always hook it up to my car and listen to my music on these, which are absent from all these research studies on how bad the headphones and Ipood are for you.
